Integration of microRNA based diagnostic assay with subclinical atherosclerotic disease to identify a population at high risk of coronary artery disease.
The goal of this study is to establish feasibility for a quantitative molecular diagnostic technology for coronary artery disease (CAD) based on the detection of circulating micro RNA. The stability of mi RNAs in plasma and the ease by which mi RNAs can be detected in a quantitative manner by real –time PCR and microarrays have sparked great interest in the use of circulating mi RNA as clinical biomarkers. In the last few years, the crucial role of different micro-RNAs in the cardiovascular system has been widely recognized.Indians are developing CAD at younger ages, during their dynamic working years and nearly 18 million productive life-years are expected to be lost from CAD in India by 2030, more than nine times higher than expected in the USA. The Indian sub-continental ethnicity has been associated with early onset of a more severe form of CAD with risk factors seemly quite different from what has been previously described in studies done among non-Asian Indian populations (mainly Caucasians) living in the westIn this study we will attempt to correlate subclinical atherosclerotic plaque burden and the vulnerable plaque as detected by Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) with the mi RNA profile of CAD patients. mimetics that would disrupt the interactions, promote apoptosis and hence regulate tumorigenesis.
